Oneonta's Will Patrick qualifies for U.S. Amateur

Molly Brown Davidson notched her second tournament title, capturing the Alabama Women’s State Amateur Championship last week at Mountain Brook Country Club.

Davidson, a rising sophomore at Hewitt-Trussville High School, qualified as the No. 5 seed with a 73. She proceeded to win four straight matches to win the championship.

After beating Ella Parker 5&4 in the first round and Zoe Walker 6&5 in the second round, Davidson took out No. 1 seed Patricia Erhart 2-up in the semifinals. She capped the title with a 2&1 win over Ashley-Sinclair Curtis.

Curtis, of Enterprise, advanced to the final match with a 1-up win over Birmingham’s Taylor Trible.

“It feels great to win because I know that the hard work that I put in is coming through,” said Davidson.

It was Davidson’s second victory in a month. In early June, she ran away with the Alabama Girls State Junior Championship in an eight-shot victory.

In the Women’s State Amateur Championship Consolation Bracket, Anna Christian Beeker of Tuscaloosa and Lauren Thompson of Midland City tied.
