Here's your chance to show off your golf writing chops
Hey there, fellow golfers. What are your favorite Alabama courses?
Ypu know, the ones you’re eager to show off to visitors. The ones you’ll never tire of playing.
Here’s what’s up. We’ve played a lot of Alabama golf courses, and we have our favorite Alabama courses, but we can’t say we’re even close to scratching the surface of the tremendous quality of golf in our fair state.
Perhaps you’ve noticed we have a searchable database of Alabama courses on our site. If you’ve missed it, it’s up in the top left corner of the home page of the website.
If you put it through its paces and select “public courses,” a price range and a city near where you live, and hit search, you’ll see a list of public courses that fit the price criteria within an hour’s drive. Click on one or more of the search results and you’ll likely see some have nothing more than the name of that golf course.
And here’s where you can help:
If one or more of your favorite courses is lacking a fleshed-out description, send us an email with 150 to 250 words describing the course. Feel free to include your thoughts on the overall style, its terrain, difficulty, signature hole and what it takes to navigate it successfully.
Don’t worry about the stats. We can fill all that in, including yardages, slope, course rating. Think of it as, you’re telling a buddy about this great course and why he or she should play it.
We’re editors and we like to edit, so your description will be subject to editing for length, clarity and style. But the really good news is, we’ll be quoting YOU as an authoritative source. And if you’re really good, when we grow enough to need contributors and course reviewers, we’ll keep your contact info.
Don’t worry about photos. Every public course in the directory has at least one photo. When we’re done with the public courses, we’ll build out the database of private courses.
So, that’s your mission should you choose to accept it.
Send your course descriptions (feel free to send descriptions of more than one) to bamagolfnews@gmail.com Put the following in the subject line: “Course database description: XYZ Golf Club.”
Oh, and feel free to list other high points, like days when greens fees are discounted, the friendliness of the staff, ambience of the clubhouse or the quality of the food in grille, especially if there’s a chef’s specialty.
