Alabama Four-ball

Johnny Komara and Tim Harwick, both of Huntsville, carded an 8-under-par 64 in the final round to claim the Alabama Four-Ball Championship victory.

The Huntsville team finished the 54-hole tournament held at Point Clear at 19-under-par 197, good for a two-shot win over two teams. They shot 64 in the final round, which tied for the day’s lowest score.

To seal the win, Komara and Harwick birdied four of their last seven holes.

“We ham-and-egged well all week,” Harwick said. “I didn’t necessarily think that we had it in us after we bogeyed two, but we just got hot. We birdied from there on out. 19-under with five bogey’s, that’s not too shabby. I’m thrilled.”

Connor Reid, of Alexander City, and Dylan Moncus, of Opelika, tied for second with Point Clear’s Brinson Holder and Decatur’s Matt Gourgeot. Reid and Moncus carded a six-under 66 in the final round, while Holder and Gourgeot posted four-under 68 to conclude their final round. Overall, each team shot 17-under 199.

The Reid-Moncus team grabbed the lead of the Alabama Four-ball after the first round, opening with a 9-under 63 on the Lakewood Golf Club’s Dogwood course that plays to 6,964 yards from the tips. A second-round 70 left them three shots behind going into the final round.

George Hall and Harlan Win took the lead after the second round on the strength of a 64-66 start. It left them nursing a one-shot lead over the Holder-Gourgeot team (66-65) heading into the last day. But the Hall-Winn team opened the door by shooting 70 in the last round to fall into a tie for fourth place along with the Birmingham team of Lance Goodson and Steven Groover.

Gourgeot and Holder shot 68 in the final round to tie Reid/Moncus for second place.
