UNA Names All-Decade Men’s Golf Team

Brett Munson named to UNA Men's Golf Team of the Decade

The University of North Alabama has named its UNA Men’s Golf Team of the Decade for the 2010s.

The men’s golf team is the last of 11 all-decade teams that have been announced to honor UNA’s top individual performers for the period from 2010-19.

The selections were made by a panel of UNA athletic department personnel.

All seven of the members of the UNA Men’s Golf Team of The Decade earned All-American honors during their time with the Lions. The list includes Trent Alexander of Florence, Ala., Ty Chandler of Stafford, Va., Conner Godsey of Rogersville, Ala., Jake Greer of Birmingham, Ala., Forrest Knight of Clanton, Ala., Brett Munson of Louisville, Ken., and Ricky Stimets of Worcester, Mass.

UNA won two Gulf South Conference Men’s Golf Championships (2010, 2012), earned a spot in the NCAA Division II South/Southeast Super Regional eight straight years and advanced to the Division II National Tournament twice during the decade.

Here’s the UNA Men’s Golf Team of the Decade:

Trent Alexander (2013-15) Florence, Ala., was First-team All-GSC 2013, 2014…Honorable  mention All-American in 2014…

Tyler Chandler (2009-12) Stafford, Va., was First-team All-GSC 2011 and 2012…GSC All-Tournament in 2011 and 2012…All-South Region in 2011 and 2012…Second-team All-American in 2012 and honorable mention All-American in 2011…Second-team GSC Men’s Golf Team of the Decade for 2010s.

Conner Godsey (2014) Rogersville, Ala., was First-team All-GSC in 2014, All-GSC Tournament, All-South Region and second-team All-American…

Jake Greer (2009-12) Birmingham, Ala., won the Phil Mickelson Award as top freshman golfer in Division II. First-team All-GSC inn 2010, 2011 and 2012…Second-team All-GSC as a freshman, making him a four-time all-conference honoree…Second-team GCAA All-American in 2012, honorable mention All-American in 2009 and 2011…Three-time first-team All-South Region…All-GSC Tournament in 2010 and 2012…Second-team GSC Men’s Golf Team of the Decade for 2010s.

Forrest Knight (2014-17) Clanton, Ala., an all-American in 2015 (second-team) and 2017 (third-team) and was honorable mention All-American in 2016…First-team All-GSC in 2015, 2016 and 2017…Three-time first-team All-South Region…2015 South-Southeast Super Region All-Tournament team and NCAA Championships All-Tournament team… Tied for fourth in nation in 2015 NCAA individual championships and tied for sixth in 2017 national championships…All-GSC Tournament in 2016…Led team to four straight NCAA regionals and to two NCAA Championship Tournaments…Second-team GSC Men’s Golf Team of the Decade for 2010s.

Brett Munson (2007-10) Louisville, Ken., was the 2010 recipient of the Jack Nicklaus Award as the top golfer in the NCAA Division II…A first-team All-American honoree in 2010, he was the Gulf South Conference individual champion, first-team All-GSC and first-team All-South Region. He helped lead the UNA golf program to its first Gulf South Conference Championships in 2009 and 2010.

Ricky Stimets (2010-13) Worcester, Mass., was a member of the First-team All-GSC 2012 and 2013…GSC All-Tournament in 2011…All-South Region in 2013…Honorable mention All-American in 2013…Second-team GSC Men’s Golf Team of the Decade for 2010s.
