Todd Bailey Wins Second Alabama Section Stroke Play Series Event

Rock Creek’s Todd Bailey collected his first win of the season Monday at Hoover Country Club in the Alabama PGA Section Stroke Play Series tournament.

Bailey fired a 2-under-par 70 in the 18-hole event, and then outlasted Todd McCorkle in a playoff to win the $1,200 first-place check.

McCorkle took home $950 for his second-place finish.

Bailey made four birdie and two bogeys, shooting 36-34 in the second stroke play event of the season. McCorkle, of Old Overton, carded two birdies and did not make a bogey in his 70.

Shoal Creek’s Eric Williamson and FarmLinks’ Chris Burley tied for third place at 71. Each won $685.

 

The next tournament is the Match Play event June 8 at Indian Hills in Tuscaloosa.

Eric Williamson of Shoal Creek and Chris Burley of FarmLinks finished T3. Jamie Lett and Clay Brown finished T5 and took home $450 each. Clay Brown, who won the first Stroke Play Series event.

Farther down the leaderboard:

T8 at 2-over were: John Carney of Riverchase, David Pilkington of Pensacola, Justin Waltman of the RTJ Trail at Oxmoor, Ron Stromeyer of Ballantrae, Paul McClure at the RTJ Trail at Magnolia and Matt Ganshaw of Gadsden took home $267.67 each.

Williamson led the field with five birdies, followed by Bailey, Ganshaw, Stromeyer and Neil Thompson with four each.

In all, 45 professionals competed.

There is one other tournament scheduled for June when the iconic Country Club of Birmingham hosts the E-Z-Go Pro-Pro tournament on June 29. The tournament will be played on the club’s West course, which has hosted the U.S. Boys Junior Amateur.

The Stroke Play Series continues in July with a trip to the Country Club of Mobile for the AndersonOrd Stroke Play Series tournament.

After that, the fourth event of the series takes a hiatus until Sept. 21 when it heads to Sylacauga’s Farm Links. The final event of the series is scheduled for Oct. 19 at Pensacola Country Club.
