Spielman, David join Tigers golf squad
AUBURN. – Auburn coach Nick Clinard went across the country to land its two newest men’s golf team members.
Clinard announced the signing of Billy Davis and Tyler Spielman Wednesday. Both players will join the Tigers beginning with the 2024-25 season.
Davis if from Spring Valley, California, while Spielman is from Cave Creek, Arizona.
Clinard lauded assistant coach Chris Williams for being instrumental in bringing the two newest Tiger aboard.
“There’s a lot of work that goes into recruiting, and these two young men are going to keep Auburn Golf front and center for many years to come,” Clinard said. “We are elated about Billy and Tyler being Auburn Tigers as they have true character, passion, integrity and work ethic, which are pillars of our program.”
Davis will have a family member close to him when he arrives at Auburn, as his sister Anna also has signed with Auburn. He is considered the No. 1 recruit in the class by Golfweek/Sagarin and AJGA Polo Rankings and he was a 2023 First Team Rolex Junior All-American.
He was a member of the 2023 U.S. Junior Ryder Cup team and also Monday-qualified for the recent PGA Tour World Wide Technology Championship in Mexico. He chose Auburn over LSU.
Clinard: ‘Billy Davis loves Auburn and Auburn will love him’
“Billy comes to Auburn from a wonderful family,” Clinard said. “Not only is he an outstanding student but also an extremely talented young man that has earned his status as the top player in the nation through his work ethic, passion for the game and competitiveness. He will be a tremendous asset to our program. Billy loves Auburn and Auburn will love him and his sister as soon as they arrive.”
Spielman is No. 20 in the Golfweek/Sagarin rankings. He led the nation in high school scoring for the 2022-23 season and was the Arizona High School Player of the Year. He won the 2023 Future Masters and the Arizona Stroke Play Championship. He chose Auburn over Arizona State, Florida State, SMU, Texas and Texas A&M.
Spielman has ties to Auburn through his grandparents. His grandfather, John Spielman, played quarterback for the Tigers and his grandmother Wendy is an Auburn graduate.
“Tyler will arrive in Auburn with an already outstanding resume,” Clinard said. “He’s got a great support system in his wonderful family. He’s a high-character young man with a tremendous skillset, which is why he’ll fit into our program perfectly. He’s going to work hard and love Auburn every step of the way. Once he’s on campus, he’s going to take off and show the nation what a bright future he has in this game.”
