Korn Ferry Tour’s Huntsville Championship Postponed

Huntsville Championship Postponed

The inaugural Huntsville Championship, a Korn Ferry Tour stop, has been postponed due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

No new date for the tournament, which was scheduled for April 20-26 at The Ledges, has been announced.

The tournament was a victim of the PGA Tour’s announcement in March that all events through the AT&T Byron Nelson were canceled. Also, the PGA Championship and The Masters were postponed.

Huntsville Championship LogoThe Huntsville Championship signaled the return of professional golf to Huntsville for the first time in 22 years. Previously, the city hosted what was then the Nike Tour from 1994-98. The first four events were held at Cherokee Ridge, while the final event was played at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail Hampton Cove.

Knight Eady, an Alabama sports marketing and event management firm, was running the tournament in conjunction with the Korn Ferry Tour.

In a news release, Knight Eady called the cancellation due to the coronavirus “a very fluid situation that requires constant review, communication and transparency, and we are dedicated to all three aspects.”

“Our team is united in our commitment to holding the very best Huntsville Championship,” the release read. “Together with the PGA TOUR and Knight Eady, the Huntsville Championship will continue to monitor information provided by the World Health Organization, Centers for Disease Control, local government health agencies and Alabama’s leading medical providers and offer regular status updates over the coming weeks regarding the future status of our event.”

The PGA Tour, which earlier this month canceled or postponed events scheduled for its six affiliated tours, issued a statement summarizing its strategy:

“As we receive more clarity in the coming weeks, the TOUR will be working with our tournament organizations and title sponsors, in collaboration with golf’s governing bodies, to build a PGA TOUR schedule for 2020 that ensures the health and safety for all associated with our sport and a meaningful conclusion to the season. We will provide further updates when those plans come into focus.”
