Bloom Golf Management adds to its portfolio

TimberCreek Golf Club, a popular Baldwin County semi-private golf course in Daphne, was sold in mid-October to Bloom Golf Management.

The unique purchase was a result of raising $3.5 million by offering local investors, including Timber Creek POA members, the opportunity to purchase the course along with Bloom Management and other financial partners.

TimberCreek LogoThe new owner is headquartered in Pass Christian, Mississippi, and headed by veteran PGA Professional Russ Bloom, who served as general manager of The Oaks in Pass Christian for over 10 years. The company currently owns and represents eight properties which include The Oaks GC; Hattiesburg CC, recently selected as the No. 1 course in Mississippi; Copper Mill GC; Sunkist CC; Oak Knoll CC; Cedar Creek GC; and Mobile’s Heron Lakes CC.

Designed by legendary course architect Earl Stone, TimberCreek debuted in 1993 offering 27 holes of spacious rolling fairways carved from a forest of dogwoods, magnolias and pines, with three separate nine-hole layouts. Elevation changes, wetland preserves, and bountiful wildlife accentuate the flowing terrain, creating an atmosphere unique along the Gulf Coast.

Remodeling and renovations to enhance and improve the facility will start immediately focusing on the Dogwood and Pines layouts with the third nine, Magnolia, scheduled for next year.

“Having 27 holes and three separate nines allows us to get to work without closing the course,” Bloom said. “The first order of business is to bring in tree cutters. We need to cut and trim about 200 trees and clean out overgrown underbrush. After that, we move on to bunker renovation and about a mile of cart path repair.”

Bloom said his crew will tackle the renovations in-house.

“We’re lucky to have an experienced crew of 25 landscapers that have worked for me for over 20 years. Due to the growing season, we can’t tackle the greens until next spring; but it’s all part of our carefully laid plan to bring the course to a ‘must play’ links,” he said.

With the help of investors, TimberCreek has begun renovations without incurring any debt. That, coupled with Bloom’s team, will help keep the budget in line. Players should see improvements in the first 60 days. Member specials and playing opportunities are being implemented and will be available soon.
