Dunlap also on the Haskins watch list

  1. The fall men’s college golf rankings were finally released Wednesday and the University of Alabama has the top-ranked player and Auburn University sits at No. 2 in the team rankings.

Nick Dunlap, fresh off an appearance in the PGA Tour’s Butterfield Bermuda Championship, is the top-ranked men’s college player after the fall season concluded. Dunlap played in three tournaments for the Tide, winning once and recording another top-finish. The No. 1 ranking comes on the heels of Dunlap’s being named one of 20 players on the Haskins Award watch list last week.

Mountain Brook’s Gordon Sargent, a junior at Vanderbilt, is No. 5 in the rankings. Auburn has two individuals ranked in the top 15 who are also on the Haskins Award watch list. Brendan Valdes is the highest ranked Tigers player at No. 13. Jackson Koivun is No. 15 heading into the spring season.

The Haskins Award is given annually to the top college player.

SEC dominates the team rankings

Not surprisingly, the SEC dominates the team rankings with 10 teams in the top 30. Auburn is the highest ranked SEC team at No. 2, followed by Vanderbilt at No. 3 and Ole Miss at No. 5.

Tennessee (7) and Arkansas (8) round out SEC teams in the top 10.

Mississippi State is No. 18 and Texas A&M at No. 25 cracked the top 25, while Florida is No. 28 and LSU is No. 30.

North Carolina’s men’s team is No. 1.

Four other teams from Alabama are in the top 150. Jacksonville State is No. 132, Troy is No. 133, South Alabama is No. 142 and North Alabama is 149.

In the women’s rankings, Auburn is ranked No. 17, while Alabama is No. 32. Wake Forest is the top-ranked women’s team, followed by Stanford at No. 2 and Arkansas at No. 3.

Casey Weidenfeld is Auburn’s top-ranked player at No. 15. Megan Schofill is No. 41. Alabama’s highest-ranked player is Sarah Edwards at No. 73.
