Here's a list of participating Gulf Coast courses

The phrase “growing the game” has become almost cliché when it comes to golf entities.

Most people in the industry talk about it, but how many of them actually are involved doing it?

Golf courses along the Gulf Coast certainly are doing their part, trying to entice future generations of the game through their summer golf programs. And so are the parents who seek the best future for their children and are providing them with an exposure to golf.

Golf is a great way to develop manners, dedication, hard work, honesty, respect, and discipline; all important values for success in life. Golf is also fun regardless of age or gender and creates wonderful family memories.

One of the best ways to get children engaged with golf is through summer instructional programs, camps and clinics where they learn the fundamentals and develop a love for the game. Once they master the basics, they move into more complex programs and competition.

The Jimmy Green Junior Golf Tour is an excellent opportunity for more advanced players to learn about the sport by competing.

Plenty of reasons to sign up juniors

The program is intended for golfers from 8-18, and introduces them to most area courses during the season. Over the years, the JGJGT has turned out some of the Gulf Coast’s best golfers that include PGA Tour players (former/current) Jimmy Green Jr., Bobby Wyatt, and Robby Shelton; and college golfers Michael Crocker (Alabama), Katelyn Foster (South Alabama), and Trip Duke (Mississippi State).

The tour also hosts a Par Three in November and the Reese’s Senior Bowl Winter Classic in December.

For more information on the JGJGT, contact Jay Stubbs at (251)604-7024 or email him at info@jimmygreentour.com, instagram@jimmygreenjuniorgolf.

There is also the Youth on Course initiative where junior golfers can play select courses for $5. All Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail courses participate, as well Azalea City Golf Course. Once registered, players can tee it up at any affiliate courses in the country. For information, go to youthoncourse.org.

Another option for junior players are private lessons which are available year around. Most area courses offer personal training from a PGA Professional.
